Resort Description

With over 400 villages and towns and 16 lakes, Cumbria and the Lake District offer an endless array of holiday options. Situated in the North of England, the area has been a beacon for visitors for centuries. The combination of soaring fells, beautiful lakes and picturesque villages has long been the inspiration for artists and literary figures for centuries, including William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. In addition, the area is also ideal for walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and messing about in boats!

A holiday house in Cumbria and the Lake District would provide access to all of the holiday delights – from active pursuits to a laid back exploration of historic sites and buildings. Rental accommodation is as varied as the villages – from country cottages to chalets, lodges and holiday parks. With so many places to visit, you’ll have a hard time settling for a short break, though it is an ideal spot for a romantic getaway. Longer family vacations will suit too, and your kids will love the aquariums, adventure parks, safari parks, zoos, and petting farms. Mom and Dad will enjoy the many restaurants, art galleries, craft shops, tea gardens and more.

With so many charming towns and villages to choose from, you’ll have a hard time picking just one! Some popular areas with multiple attractions include Windermere, Ravenglass, Keswick, Ullswater, Dalton-in-Furness, Newby Bridge, Ulverston, Hawkshead and the five towns called Newbiggin! The Lake District National Park is a great place to for a ramble and some family fun. It may be easier to explore the regions with the Lake District one by one:

  • Cockermouth (including Buttermouth, Loweswater, Crummock Water)
  • Keswick (including Borrowdale),
  • Central Cumbria (including Ambleside, Windermere, Grasmere, Hawkshead, Coniston)
  • West Cumbria (including Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, Wigton, Sellafield, Millom, Eskdale, Wasdale, St Bees)
  • East Cumbria (including Penrith, Eden Valley, North Pennines, Alston, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen)
  • North Cumbria (including Carlisle, Caldbeck, Brampton, Lanercost, Bewcastle, Hadrian's Wall)
  • South Cumbria (including Kendal, Cartmel, Barrow-in-Furness, Kirkby Lonsdale, Yorkshire Dales, Sedbergh).
