Lancashire, in the North of England, is home to a myriad of options for a family holiday or short break. In addition to the delights of Blackpool, Lancashire is also home to towns and villages set in unspoilt countryside, and some pretty seaside towns and holiday resorts.
Blackpool is a hive of activity – from amusement parks with wild rides to water parks, zoos and circuses, plus of course the fun of the seaside. Make the most of Blackpool by renting a holiday home, chalet or lodge.
Blackburn and Darwen offer water parks, museums and indoor markets, while Burnley’s links with the cotton industry are fascinating. Situated on the edge of the South Pennine Moors, it is ideally located to explore the wild landscapes, and to start on your travels along the Bronte Way.
On the fringe of the West Pennine Moors, you’ll find Chorley, which offers unique shopping, and easy access to the delights of the countryside.
The Forest of Bowland is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is ideal place to go climbing, walking, horse riding, cycling and even hot air ballooning over Pendle Hill. Ribble Valley has much to offer too – like the market town of Clitheroe, or the Tolkien Trail.
The areas surrounding Lancaster, Morecombe, and Lune Valley offer all the delights of city, coast and country. Perhaps you’d prefer the historic village of Lytham, or the traditional seaside resort of St Annes, or the picturesque Fylde countryside. Much of the area around Hyndburn, particularly Accrington, is set aside for nature conservation. Those looking for an active outdoorsy holiday will also love the West Pennine Moors.
Or perhaps you’d prefer your short break to include the city of Preston. For a ski holiday, there’s no better place than the Rosendale Valley. If you’d like to explore Viking legends, then go to West Lancashire.
Wyre offers the quintessential English holiday – magnificent countryside with a number of seaside resorts, including Fleetwood, Thornton, Clevelys and Marsh Mill. Inland is Paulton Le Fylde and Garstang.
