Resort Description

Derbyshire is home to over three-quarter’s of England’s Peak District National Park, making it the ideal destination to explore the dales, valleys, caves, hills, meadows and rivers of this beautiful region. With a range of accommodation options available in the National Park, and in the surrounding towns and villages, Derbyshire is perfect for short breaks and family holidays.

The Peak District is a key attraction, and offers something for everyone, whether you fancy a quiet retreat communing with the bird and animal life, or an active holiday that includes rock climbing, caving, potholing, and pony trekking! The area is also extremely popular with walkers and cyclists, and there are a number of excellent trails for both the experienced walker and the beginner.

The capital city of this beautiful county is Derby, which has all the mod cons you’d expect from a young city, like a fully pedestrianised city centre with great shopping, along with the traditional delights of a market town. Arts, culture and tourism mix to create a vibrant atmosphere great for a city break.

If you’d prefer a weekend break in the country, there are a number of pretty towns and villages across Derbyshire with lots on offer. The bustling market town of Buxton is the county’s premier resort town based around the pure volcanic waters of the baths. Buxton offers so much to do – from visits to the Donkey Sanctuary, to watching the long-held tradition of “well dressing.” There are a number of other activities and attractions around the area.

The market town of Matlock Bath is also home to a number of excellent holiday options. Try the cable car at the Heights of Abraham and get a bird’s eye view of the Derwent Valley. Or perhaps you’d prefer a trip to the Gulliver’s Kingdom theme park.

There are plenty of other towns to visit: Bakewell is home to the Derbyshire Dales National Nature Reserve, and you’ll be fascinated by the Crich Tramway village. Other towns to consider include: Chesterfield, Alfreton, New Mills, Swadlincote, Eckington, Castleton, Ashbourne, Clay Cross and New Mills.
